Once the wall and floor finishes have been selected and the overall design concept is created, it’s time to think about the ceiling. Each of the existing types of ceilings solves certain problems and meets its own criteria and the tastes of different people. But, such a huge selection and availability of most materials can be confusing.

Universal option

A common option that will be suitable for most interior styles is a matte white surface. At the same time, it should be even, without drawings and stucco. The following materials will help to achieve this:

  • plasterboard;
  • paint;
  • plaster;
  • stretch ceilings of a certain texture.

Here a choice depends on your budget, how much you are going to wait, and how much inconvenience you are willing to endure for the sake of the result.

Complicated ceilings

This option is preferable if the room decoration and all furniture in it are neutral both in color and shape. On the contrary, if there are already enough accents in the room, then the top in it should be more modest. If your rooms are large, multi-level structures look great. They will zone the space and make each part of it more separate.

A ceiling shape depends on what is located on the floor and on the walls. For instance, you can lower the ceiling over the bed. Moving the furniture in this case will be much more difficult, so its location must be well thought out.

Ornate designs on the ceiling will not become relevant soon. These are various waves, flowers, butterflies, and other ornaments. In modern interiors, simple geometric shapes are more common. Multi-level ceilings of similar forms are used when it is necessary to correct the irregular shape of the room. In this case, their use is justified.

Facing materials

Thanks to this technology, you can hide various uneven surfaces on the ceiling if any. Materials for the top differ in their properties from those intended for walls. They should be as light as possible, and strength is not so important for them. The advantages of ceiling tiles include texture (the ability to choose a pattern or just a smooth surface) and a range of colors. The tile can be painted if desired.

The most decorative finishes

This is not the most popular way to finish the ceiling, as it causes a lot of trouble. But if you want to see beauty every time you look up, you can consider these options which include art painting, drapery fabric, fixed glazing, coffered ceiling, various stickers, combining different materials, false ceilings, etc.
